“Smart, playful and funny…a giggling cult hit” —NY Magazine.
Based on a story in The Weekly World News, BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL is a musical comedy/horror show about a half boy/half bat creature who is discovered in a cave near Hope Falls, West Virginia. The Bat Boy, Edgar, is eventually accepted as a member of a prominent family and taught to act like a “normal” boy. Edgar naively tries to fit in with the narrow-minded people of Hope Falls, but peace and happiness are shattered when a secret is revealed. Soon the entire town learns the shocking story of Bat Boy’s unholy origin...
Equal parts Creature from the Black Lagoon and My Fair Lady, BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL pokes fun at society’s treatment of people who are different through big production numbers, ringing gospel songs, and love duets. This darkly funny musical was named Best Off-Broadway Musical in 2001 and is a must see for B movie aficionados and music theater fans.
BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL runs February 22 through February 24 in the McAneny Theatre. Due to subject matter and references, recommended for audiences 12 yrs and older.
